• When you get a builder to design you a home you can pay between $5500 - $15000 for a plan to be drawn up. This plan is then quoted on by the builder all the while you are praying / hoping that the quote will come in on your desired budget. Very often when you get a builder to design you a home and then have the house design quoted on then you are suddenly left with a house that is going to cost you more often lots more than you are willing to pay. To make the situation worse you do not own the copyright to the plan and can not get another builder to quote on that plan you just spent thousands on and gave all your ideas to. You are left to start all over again seek a new builder and having to design another home that will not infringe on the copyright of the first house plan you had designed by the first builder. • The other situation that happens more often than it should is where some one goes to an architect or house designer and pays through the nose, often between 14k to 25k for plans. This is a lot of money for plans that can be done up for half this price or less.

• The other common problem with plans is that some hot shot architect draws some fantastic plan but in fact when the builder goes to quote it there is situations in those plans that just cant be built. Yes, it does happen and more often that we would like to think.
